Our Philosophy

We follow organic practices.  While we are not certified organic at this time, we believe it is important for the health of our children and planet to avoid the routine use of pesticides, herbicides, and antibiotics in our food.  We avoid the use of chemical fertilizers and additives, because we believe that our children will want clean drinking water and a healthy soil microbiome in the future just as much as we do today.

We use only open-pollinated varieties of vegetables and fruits.  This means no hybrids or genetically modified seeds.  We believe that it is important for farmers to have the ability to save their seed from year to year. Whenever possible, we raise heirloom varieties that have been passed down from generation to generation for many years.

Remember that when you purchase from us, you are supporting at three additional family owned businesses.  We buy grain from our animals from Holsopple Feed Mill, and they purchase their grains from farmers in Somerset and Cambria county.  Our USDA-inspected meat products are processed at Hoffer's Ligonier Valley Packaging.  You, as the end customer, help keep this rural chain alive!

We believe in good music, good food, and good fun!  Like a jamboree is not complete without a banjo, a fiddle, and a washboard, we raise animals and plants that compliment each other in harmony.  Our chickens are raised on pasture and all of their manure is composted back into our fields.  The chickens follow our ruminant livestock, scratching apart the dung and keeping the insect population in check.  Some farmers call this method biodynamic.  We call it common sense.
